Sabado 20 de Octubre!!!

Con motivo de la festividad de San Francisco de San Francisco de Asis, la Parroquia Episcopal La Encarnacion llevara a cabo su tradicional bendicion de los animales y clinica de vacunacion de mascotas. Esto sera el proximo SABADO, 20 DE OCTUBRE de 9:00 am a 3:00 pm en los predios de la parroquia en la calle Juan Davila esquina con Juan B Rodriguez, en la misma calle del Cine Roosevelt. Habra veterinarios ofreciendo servicios de vacunacion a bajo costo y piscinas para que los perros se refresquen ademas de venta refrigerios y articulos de Save A Sato. Ven y visitanos y disfruta de este dia, donde tambien se estara dando bendicion para los perritos!

El Nuevo Dia, Como proteger a tu mascota en caso de Tormenta o Huracan

No podemos olvidar las masctas a la hora de esbozar el plan de contingencia familiar para la temporada de huracanes.
En primer lugar es importante saber a dónde ir en caso de residir en alguna zona que sea peligrosa y que propicie a un desalojo para una mayor seguridad. Asimismo se debe identificar un refugio de emergencias que acepte mascotas, contactando a la Sociedad Protectora de Animales para que te ayude a conocer acerca de los mismos. También puedes identificar clínicas u hospedajes habilitados para ellas o si la residencia de algún familiar es segura y apta como refugio temporero.
Expertos como Brenda Rivera García del Colegio de Veterinarios de Puerto Rico, señalan que para un mejor cuidado de los animales durante la temporada ciclónica se debe hacer una lista de los artículos necesarios para subsistir por 14 días. Entre estos artículos se debe considerar los alimentos enlatados y la comida seca para mascotas, así como agua para esas 2 semanas aproximadamente.
Si hubiera que desalojar el hogar hacia un refugio u orta residencia,  es importante cargar con los documentos de la mascota, en especial las vacunas. Si la mascota toma algún medicamento, no olvides tenerlo a mano. El estrés por el cambio de ambiente y los ruidos del ciclón pueden agravar la salud animal. Se debe contar con una manta, cama y juguetes, además de sus platos de agua y comida.
Un artículo importante es un collar que identifique el nombre del animal y la a dirección física de la residencia. Igualmente puede optar por agregar en un ‘kit’ una fotografía reciente con tu mascota para que en cualquier caso de que haya alguna separación, entonces sea fácil identificar y decir “esa es mi mascota”.
Si no tiene una placa grabada con el nombre de su mascota, escriba con marcador permanente su información sobre un económico collar de nilón.
Las mascotas de compañía que duermen dentro de la casa deben mantenerse de esa manera, dentro del hogar. Si padecen de ansiedad y se ponen nerviosos con los truenos, es recomendable que sean colocados dentro de una jaula para que se sientan cómodos y protegidos, preferiblemente en un lugar oscuro donde no haya mucho ruido.
Dentro del kit de contingencia puedes incluir un bozal suave, el collar, la correa y el expediente médico del animal.
Mientras tanto, el doctor José Arce, del Miramar Animal Hosiptal recomienda que la identificación a utilizarse debiera ser un microchip.
"El microchip se pone en las clínicas veterinarias o en albergues a través de una inyección en la parte dorsal del cuello. El microchip consiste en un número de identificación que ningún otro animal en el mundo va a tener. Cuando llega un animal que está perdido, se le pasa un escáner y así detectan el número de identificación del microchip, si lo tienen", indicó el veterinario.
Arce agregó que se debe llevar un kit para recoger excrementos, llevar toallas y llevar las medicinas que utiliza el animal.  Además indicó que "nunca deje los animales solos en la casa durante un huracán. Si se va para otro lugar llévelo consigo".
Finalmente, Christine Colón, coordinadora del Programa Educativo Humane Society de Puerto Rico recalca lo importante de preparar una mochila con los artículos más necesarios, entre ellos un botiquín de primeros auxilios por si la mascota resultase herida, poder asistirla. Además menciona que se tenga una jaula adaptada al tamaño del animalito, por si preferiblemente tuviese que dormir en ella y para facilitar el transporte en caso de tener que abandonar el hogar.

Solei is doing well and is a steady 19.6 lbs and her brother Duncan (also a Sato) is 30.4 lbs.
She has longer legs that him but they are about the same height and she can run circles around him!
Here is a picture of a recent colder morning and her adjustment to the New England climate.

The other picture is actually on my business cards.  I am the Plymouth County Massachusetts regional director for K9 Contain & Train which is an electric dog fence company.
We give an option to people to safely contain their dogs that can not afford a physical fence.
I do the appointments, installs, fence trainings, etc.. and get to work with lots of different dogs up here on the Southeast coast of Massachusetts.

My Sato Love..A happy ending for Lucia! now Dottie

Dear Gloria or to whom it may concern,

I am just writing to thank you for saving my now baby Lucia, (who now goes by the name of, Dottie).  She is the love of my life!  We love to play together and with other dogs.  And we take lots of long walks through town and along the ocean.  Dottie is healthy and we couldn't be happier together.  Thank you for all you do with your amazing SATO program!  Attached is a picture of us- enjoy!

A Happy ending for Chispa (Pumpkin)

Dear friends at Save A Sato,

I am meeting a new veterinarian today, and so my family was reviewing my paperwork, and decided you may want an update on my life.

You may remember me as Chispa, from 2010.  You were all kind enough then to rescue me from the streets of Puerto Rico. Then, I was brought to the United States.

Eventually I ended up at a shelter in Worcester, Massachusetts. My owners were there looking for a dog, and they said, "how about that little brown one over there?". They still say that I found them somehow. My owner was going through a rough time herself, and as we got to know each other, she often said we saved each other.

She named me "Pumpkin" because of my beautiful coat, and brought me to Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, where I now happily live. I have a cushy dog bed on the floor with a big heavy blanket that I love to burrow in at night. They also have bought me warm outfits for the winter. We take long walks together in the arboretum here, and though I'm wary of running into too many other dogs, I love to take long hikes. They can tell from how I act that I had a rough childhood but are careful to pay attention to when I get too nervous. Sometimes when I'm off leash in a big grassy area I run around and around in circles - I love to run!  We've been through the first two levels of dog obedience class at the local MSPCA and this has helped me to know what my owners need me to respond to. We all communicate now pretty well. I have a sibling cat who puts up with me, because I really love cats.  I get to go to work with my mom on some days and I run through the building saying hello to all of my friends at the office. I also went on vacation with my family to New Hampshire this year, and got to hike the mountains and canoe in the lake (I'm not sure how I feel about swimming!).

So you can see, I'm doing really well, and I can't thank you enough for helping me to get off the streets and for seeing that I could be an amazing dog if I had another chance. I have found my lifelong family, and am a happy, well settled dog. I hope that you are able to continue to help other dogs like me for a long time! Thank you for all of your kindness and for seeing something in me,

A Happy ending for Tessie

Here is one of Tessie in the car: she knows now that riding in the car usually leads to some fun stuff like walks with the family, meeting with other families with dogs, etc., and she jumps in the car all by herself... :)

A Happy Ending for Delia!

I adopted a puppy named Delia in Miami, FL from the Broward Human Society.  They told me she was a rescue from your organization (Save a Sato).  I just wanted to give you an update!  We renamed her Moose & she is doing very well!  She is the most loving, sweetest dog I have every met. Everyone loves her and tells me how cute she is!

Enzo the Sato fué un rescate de Save A Sato, un no-kill shelter en Puerto Rico , lidereado por Gloria Marti donde desde hace casi tres años ya soy voluntaria. Yvette Piña y Francisco Piña viajaron a Puerto Rico para conocer a Enzo, se encariñaron mucho y decidieron tenerle un voto de fe y adoptarlo. Ha pasado más de un año , un arduo proceso de entrenamiento but they are indeed junto con Scruffy y sus gatitos. Una familia feliz : ) Historia como estas son las que me inspiran y me devuelven la esperanza de que todavía hay gente con compasión y entrega. El día que encontramos a Enzo escondido en un mangle abandonado estaba todo desnutrido sobreviviendo comiendo iguanas y verlo tan feliz y sano alegra mi corazón ♥!!
